Brian Gavin Creates the “Thalia” Custom Platinum Sapphire and Diamond Ring…

At the beginning of October we were contacted by a previous customer who was in the process of purchasing a beautiful 2.02ct, cushion cut heated Sri Lankan flawless sapphire from Jeff White, a master gem cutter from Tennessee. She had seen pictures of a custom platinum and sapphire setting that we had made and was interested in commissioning us to create her setting for her. She spoke with Brian several times and e-mailed us pictures and drawings to make sure that we understood exactly what she wanted. Brian made some additional suggestions and then the ring was created using CAD. The CAD rendering was e-mailed to the customer and it needed a few adjustments. On receiving the second CAD rendering, the customer was ready to proceed. The result is best described in our customer's words and pictures…..

Once I ordered my incredible Jeff White Sapphire, I knew I only wanted BGD to make the setting that would do this gem justice.

Brian – Thank you for being generous of time and spirit, warm, genuine and infinitely patient, a great listener, passionate, and always ready to share your knowledge and experience. You are quite completely instinctive about both aspects of jewellery creation and customer service.

Lesley – Thank you very much for providing impeccable service, always being on the ball, reassuring, kind, efficient, and intelligent and always having your clients' needs at the heart of everything you do.

During our process I was never made to feel like I was troubling you – an email to Lesley always put my mind at ease and I was never left "hanging" for further info or updates. You two both are simply some of the hardest working and most invested people I know. Even though I wasn't purchasing a key stone and was creating only a moderately priced setting, I was made to feel just as if I was spending 20k. Brian, I appreciate the numerous hours spent going over my feedback and you making phone calls to Australia to discuss the minutiae details of my ring. The time spent speaking with you directly was really invaluable and not something one often gets to experience.

When the ring finally came, it was just as I'd envisioned but even more beautiful than I had anticipated. The design and proportions were executed perfectly. Something that really stands out to me is how incredibly comfortable the ring is – the platinum feels lovely, plus it literally feels as if it has been created especially around my hand. I think this is somewhere that Brian's experience really shows. The finish on the platinum and details such as the milgrain are simply perfect.

When I noticed some concerns with my ring after it arrived, I will repeat something I sincerely believe – everything is rosy when things go well with a vendor; but when something goes wrong, that is really the test of a vendor's class. To this end, I value that both of you have shown an immediate and genuine passion for fixing my concerns and doing what you can to make everything right. The way my concerns are being addressed is what speaks volumes of Brian's integrity and the way he does business. I have every confidence with Brian's solutions and I am already looking forward to working with BGD again.

I know "the experience" when going custom isn't important to some folks, as long as the quality is there in the end. In my opinion, with BGD the quality is there in spades, plus during the process you get to become familiar with some of the most genuinely nice and most passionate people I have met in any industry. To me personally, this experience and after-service is one half of the whole package. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with and get to know both of you.
