Brian Gavin Diamond’s Popular “Truth” Head is True Beauty and Balance…
About 3 weeks ago we were contacted by a customer who is an ex-South African living in the Far East. He was interested in purchasing a Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamond after discovering and reading about Brian on Pricescope. When talking with him on the phone, Brian discovered that the customer's uncle knew Brian's late father, Ben Gavin, through his well known work regarding diamond cutting in South Africa. He selected his center stone and was initially having his setting custom made in South Africa, but e-mailed us several pictures to see what we would come up with. After much discussion he decided to order the Melissa setting with the Truth head, with a variation on the shank – a knife edge at the top easing into a half round band in the bottom half. On completion, we e-mailed him the pictures:
Hi Lesley, Wow, the pics look incredible – can't quite believe this is Emma's ring. The photos have made this so much more real…..had to catch my breath!! It looks beautiful and better than I expected, but I will give you my reaction when I collect it Friday. It has been a wonderful experience to work with you and Brian. These days it is very difficult to find the patience and attention to detail you have shared, not to mention your total commitment that has left me wondering if you actually get any sleep!
When he received the ring, he sent us this incredible e-mail:
Dear Lesley and Brian, I just picked up Emma's ring from FedEx in Hong Kong. I was both so excited to see it and ridiculously nervous to open it anywhere near people – which in HK is everywhere!! I am scheduled to depart HK tonight at 9pm but I could not spend the day hanging around knowing I had the ring in my bag so I returned to the airport at 3pm, found a private booth in a sports bar and began the ritual. I donned your white gloves (nice touch) and gently opened layer after layer. I stared at the box for about 20 minutes. Eventually I opened it and was literally hypnotized. Your photos were great but…..the real thing, unbelievable. I have been staring at it for the last 3 hours and cannot stop. I just don't know how I am going to keep this a secret until I propose! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
The graduation from round to knife edge is so gentle you can't quite pinpoint the change – perfection if there was ever a definitive definition. The diamond is the perfect size and the heart shaped prongs are fantastically more fulfilling than I had imagined. The Truth head is, well, precisely that – True beauty and balance. The aquamarine surprise keeps me smiling.
I am sure the both of you are aware of the role you play in peoples' lives but for me, you have produced something that will forever mark a significant stage in ours. I won't forget this and I am sure Emma will not either. Thank you. Well I only have 4 more hours of undisturbed gazing so if you'll excuse me I will return to my hypnosis.
