Brian Gavin Diamonds Creates New Platinum Full Bezel Engagement Ring for Customer’s Original Engagement Diamond…

In mid-May we received an e-mail from a customer interested in having us make her a platinum full bezel engagement ring setting for the .90 round diamond from her original engagement ring. She e-mailed us several pictures to explain exactly what she wanted plus the modifications she wanted to add.

She asked if we could incorporate the platinum from her original setting into the new setting. We explained that we could not guarantee it as the platinum would need to be refined, and for that small amount of platinum it would still be mixed in with other platinum. Adding the platinum without refining it would contaminate the new platinum.

She wanted the height and the width of her new engagement ring setting to be the same as her wedding band so we asked her to send in both rings. She was nervous about sending her engagement ring and wedding band via USPS registered, insured mail but we assured her that it was the safest and least expensive method of shipping high value items and that our customers had been sending in diamonds and jewelry for resizing and resetting via this method for years.

The package arrived safely and we got started on the CAD design. When she received the CAD images she wrote the following:

"I would definitely like the diamond to sit lower. The ring itself looks like it has a lot of metal overall. I would like the height of the shank to be a bit lower. Is it possible to make the bezel a bit more delicate (i.e. thinner and shorter) as well?"

We explained to her that we allow for a 15% overage of material in the CAD's and that the metal is filed down when the ring is cast and the diamond is set. When we e-mailed her the pictures of the waxes she started feeling a lot more comfortable as there was already less material and the head was sitting lower. The ring was finished up and shipped to her.

On receiving her beautiful new bezel diamond ring this is what she wrote:
