Brian Gavin’s Custom Sapphire and Diamond Reset Makes Customer’s “ Face and Heart smile”…

In March we received an e-mail from a previous customer who had purchased a sapphire which was cut by Richard Homer in a flat facet pattern in an antique cushion shape. She was looking to set it in a custom ring. She was requesting quotes from several vendors and ultimately decided to go with another designer/jeweler.

In July she got back in touch with us saying that she was disappointed in the setting she had received, and asked us if we were willing to work with her on a new setting, using as many diamond melee from the first setting as possible. We were obviously very happy to hear back from her and asked her to tell us what she did not like about her setting and to send us "inspiration"pictures of what she had in mind. We sketched up a couple of options and she decided to go with the design indicated in the picture gallery below. We were able to use a few of the melee from her original setting and supplemented approx. 80% of them with Brian Gavin Signature melee. Being that we are always working on several custom projects at the same time, she patiently waited while we completed her new creation.

On receiving Brian's photographs prior to shipping, she wrote us this e-mail:

OMG!!!! Tranquil blue indeed. What a transformation. And are those tiny little arrows I see in the halo stones in the side by side shot? Unbelievable! Love the hand shot. I can't wait until tomorrow. I knew it would be worth the wait.

On receiving her beautiful new ring, she e-mailed us this very emotionally charged e-mail :

I am in love with it. I absolutely cannot get over how sparkly the halo melee is. I just am blown away by the beauty of those tiny stones. I have never seen such life in such small diamonds…I was always a little embarrassed by the previous setting. I guess because I saw imperfections I thought everyone else did. I am very analytical and once I found one thing wrong with the previous setting, I found more and more about it that bothered me. The poor sapphire just didn't come to life in it. Brian said the sapphire talks now and he is right!! I will honestly tell you that I cannot find one thing wrong with this setting. I cannot wait to go to work today and show it off! People may get tired of me putting my hand in their face. The sapphire looks so much better now. I bought it because I loved the color. And now BGD brought it to life in a most beautiful and very complimentary setting. I told Brian that I knew the sapphire was not a symmetrical cut but I loved the color so much that I bought it. In the past, I could always find the corner that was ever so slightly "off". Now, I cannot do that. I do not know what you did or how you did it but the sapphire looks perfectly shaped. I think it looks larger in this setting for some reason. I suppose all the beautiful melee allows the color of the sapphire to "pop". That may be an overused word but it applies in this case. There simply are not sufficient words to thank you for taking on this project and for the beautiful ring. I just knew in my heart that BGD would make the perfect ring and you did. I guess the best way to describe how I feel is that this sapphire ring now makes my face and heart smile.
