What one of my 'design days' was like at Whiteflash

I have had many requests asking what one of my days was like at whiteflash. It's a fair question so let me try and fill you in. A little over a year ago, my eldest son got married to a wonderful young lady who knew exactly what she wanted for an engagement ring. Of course she got an A CUT ABOVE as her center stone. She wanted something with a half bezel but did not want the band to be too thick. The design process started with making a few sketches and throwing out some ideas to her just as I had done with so many customers that I have worked with over the years on custom designed jewelry. I got together with my old friend Frieder who goes back with me more than 11 years of joint design and development. We have had some amazing moments of design co-operation but I will leave that for another post. We hashed out the design, went back and forth with a few renditions and started to cad it. Here are some of the images showing the design process which took a total of about 10 days. One of the major problems was to make the head strong enough on such a thin shank, as most half bezel rings have wider shanks. In the first rendition the head remained a little thick in order for there to be stability. She was not that excited about the heavy head so we went back to the drawing board and then came up with a lighter head, but we had to insert a thin seat to make sure that the head would not open if knocked during everyday wear. We also tried 2 different shanks as can be seen here in the two cad drawings The additional images show the finished ring and the matching band
